Kamika
Ekadasi is observed during the waning phase of moon (Krishna Paksha) in the
month of July/August. Importance of this Ekadashi is mentioned in the Brahmavaivarta
Purana and was also narrated to Yudhishtira by Lord Krishna. Kamika Ekadasi
2011 date is July 26. In North India, Kamika Ekadasi is observed in Shravan
Month and the corresponding month in other regions is the Ashada Month
Legend has
it that observing Kamika Ekadashi is equivalent to taking holy dip in sacred
rivers and is also equal to reading all the Holy Scriptures dedicated to Lord
Vishnu.
Offering
Tulsi leaves and lighting lamp using ghee or sesame oil in Sri Krishna Temples
on Kamika Ekadasi helps in alleviating distress.
Observing
this Ekadasi also helps in redemption of sins and in attaining Moksha.
Scriptures also suggest that people observing this Ekadashi wins over Yama, the
god of death.
All the
usual rules associated with Ekadasi fasting is followed during Kamika Ekadashi.
Ekadashi
fasting is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is observed on 11th day of a lunar
fortnight as per the traditional Hindu calendar.
