KAISIKADWADASI 2012 program Tirumala

Om Namo Venkatesaya. Kaisikadwadasi  date is 25-11-2012 Sunday. The annual Kaisika Dwadasi Asthanam and Chakrateertha Mukkoti will be performed in Tirumala on November 25.The idol is bought in procession at wee hours only on Kaisika Dvadasi (also known as Mukkoti Dvadasi) while the idol is worshipped inside the temple

Just as the name Tiru Dvadasi was given to Kurma Dvadasi by Sri Vaishnavas so also prabodhotsava or Uttana Dvadasi was called Kaisika Dvadasi. The Ekadasi associated with it is called Bodhana or Prabodhini Ekadasi. On the Uttana Davdasi day preparation is said to be made for waking Vishnu, who went to sleep on Ashada Sukla Ekadasi (Vishnu Sayana Ekadasi) and turned on his side on Bhadrapada Sukla Ekadasi (Vishnu Parivartana Ekadasi). On the Uttana Dvadasi day the chaturmasya Vrita commences. Among Sri Vaishnavas, this dvadasi is known as Kaisika dvadasi and the word Kaisika has a moral tale to tell. It was the ragam of the last song in praise of Sri Vishnu which the chandala Bhakta Nambaduvan sang before returning to the Rakshasa (a learned Brahmin who was by curse turned a Rakshasa for his sins) to offer his body to be devoured as food by the hungry Rakshasa. The story has been already narrated in chapter III. The moral inculcated is that a truthful and devout chandala occupies in the spiritual ladder a higher status and has the inherent power to offer salvation to an erring Brahmin, however, learned he may be. This is one of the cardinal points in the philosophy of Sri Nammalwar.

According to Nammalvar, a truthful and devout chandala Bhakta is really his Guru.

So Kaisika Dvadasi derives its name from the ragam of a song and is considered a very holy day.

The reading of the Kaisika Puranam, which is specially composed in a dialect which is a mixture (manipravalam) of Sanskrit and Tamil or Telugu interspersed with Sanskrit quotations and vernacular explanations is the special feature of the early hours of the morning before day break.

Suprabhatam, thomala, archana  sevas are cancelled and KU(Kalyanostavam),UNJ(unjal seva),AB(Arjitha brahmostavam ),VAS(vasanthosthavam),SD(Sahasra deepalankarana) sevas are allowed )

Aja Ekadasi – Annada Ekadashi August 13 2012

August month Ekadasi dates

August 13, 2012 – Aja Ekadasi – Annada Ekadashi
August 27, 2012 - Padmini Ekadasi - Adika Masa Ekadasi

Aja Ekadasi – Annada Ekadashi August 13 2012:
Aja Ekadashi falls in waning phase of the moon in the month of Bhadrapada (August – September) according to Hindi Hindu Calendar. In 2012, the date of Aja Ekadasi fasting is August 13. The importance of this Ekadasi was mentioned by Lord Krishna to Yudhisthira and is found in the Brahmavaivarta Purana. It is believed that a person who observes this Ekadashi becomes free from the reactions of his/her sinful activities.
Legend has it that the great King Harishchandra got back his kingdom, wife and dead son after performing the Ananda or Aja Ekadashi. It was Gautama Muni who asked Harishchandra to observe the Annada Ekadasi so that he will be able to overcome all the difficulties in life. The king got back all that he had lost and was able to rule his kingdom without any difficulties.
It is said that whoever fasts on this Ekadasi is surely freed from all the sins. There are no separate rules for fasting on the day. Rice and grains are avoided on the day.

happy krishna janmashtami 2012

happy krishna janmashtami 2012

happy krishna janmashtami 2012
Dates:
Detail 2012 dates of Sri Krishna Janmashtami
Sri Krishna Janmashtami is on August 10. (vrat or fasting in North India is on August 9).

Janmashtami also known as Gokulashtami marks the celebration of the birth of Lord Sri Krishna. Sri Krishna was born in the 'Rohini' nakshatram (star) to King Vasudeva and Devaki Devi on the eighth day of the dark fortnight in the month of Sravana. This festival is also known as Sri Krishna Jayanti and Krishnashtmi. The actual day of celebration can be on two different days as the star 'Rohini' and Ashtami may not be on the same day. These days correspond to the August and September months on the Gregorian calendar.

Sri Krishna is considered as the eighth avatar (incarnation) of Lord Vishnu's, (one of three major Hindu Gods) on earth. He is considered to be the Lord's most glorious incarnations. It is said that his remembrance true heart brings extreme joy and pleasure because Sri Krishna himself was a manifestation of joy at all levels and in all walks of life. No other God in the Hindu pantheon, or for that matter in any other religion, is associated with so many romantic tales and so fully radiating with all the divine attributes as Sri Krishna
Shri Krishna Janmashtami, or Sri Krishna Jayanti, celebrates the birthday of Lord Krishna. In 2011, the date of Sri Krishna Jayanti in North India is August 22. In some parts of South India and in some parts of western India it is on August 21. It is observed as Dahi Handi in Maharashtra, the formation of the huge human pyramids to break the pot hung high up. The festival is also known as Gokulashtami and Krishnashtami.
Shri Krishna is today one of the most widely revered and most popular of all Hindu Gods. He is worshipped as the eighth incarnation or avatar of Lord Vishnu. Krishna is also worshipped as a supreme god in his own right by numerous sects around the world.
In North India, Shri Krishna Janmashtami is observed eight days after the full moon day in Hindi month Bhadrapada (August – September). In South India, the festival is observed on the eighth day after full moon in the month of Shravan (August – September).
The Sri Krishna Jayanti festival is not celebrated on the same day in all parts of India and this is due to the various regional calendars and the various calculations in the time of the birth of Krishna.
In 2011, Sri Krishna Jayanti is marked on August 21 in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and is some parts of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. In North India, it is marked on August 22. The Smarta Tradition observes the festival on August 21 and the Vaishnava Tradition on August 22.
Special pujas are held in Sri Krishna Temples spread around the world and millions of people visit the shrines. Special poojas and rituals are held at midnight the time of Krishna’s birth.
