Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam 2011 March 29 .

As a prelude to Telugu New Years' Day Ugadi which falls on April 4, the temple cleansing festival Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam will be performed at the hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara in Tirumala on March 29.

In view of this festival, TTD has cancelled Astadala Pada Padmaradhana Seva in Tirumala temple on that day while all the arjitha sevas will be performed as usual. However, the pilgrims who desire to take part in this arjitha seva ritual has to pay Rs.300 per ticket.

The temple cleansing festival begins at 6am after the first bell and Sattumora in the Srivari temple and the entire celestial cleansing process will be completed by 11am. After that the pilgrims will be allowed for darshan.

The cleansing will be carried out with an amalgamation of Srichurnam, Turmeric, Sandal paste, camphor and other ingredients mixed in holy water. These waters are used  to clean the walls, roofs, gopurams, sub-shrines located inside the Tirumala temple, after brining out the gold and silver vessels and processional deities from sanctum sanctorum to Bangaru Vakili.

This temple purification ritual is usually performed four times in a year(particularly on Tuesdays), a week before the commencement of Annual Brahmotsavams, Vaikuntha Ekadasi, Anivara Asthanam and Ugadi occasions.
